If you absolutely loathe the calls that begin, “I’m so and so, from such and such company, and have I got the job for you!”—then you have my sympathy.
In the early nineties I got a call just like that from a stereotypical headhunter. Without even asking if I had a minute (my manager was standing right there in my office), he talked on and on about an opportunity with his client. Before I knew what hit me, he had scheduled an interview with his client.
When I arrived at the prospective company, the interviewer’s first question was, “Why do you want to relocate for this job?” I seethed inside. The headhunter had previously assured me that it was a local position. Later, after refusing to cancel a work related presentation for a second interview, the headhunter threatened to make sure I would never work in this industry again.
That’s when I made my career move into recruiting! I figured that if this aggressive, bulldog-type could be successful, imagine what I could do if I treated my candidates with dignity and respect.
I began my career as an internal recruiter for a small boutique healthcare IT consulting firm, Healthlink. The company evolved through a merger and ultimately an acquisition by IBM. During the journey, the original founder of Healthlink and I recognized the compatibility of consulting and recruiting firms and founded Intellect Resources.
In 2001 I became the sole proprietor of Intellect Resources. Our first eight years were dedicated solely to recruiting services. Through time we began to add services based on client requests—consulting, go-live and creative hiring solutions.
Fast forward to today: we are a solutions company who can deliver the right resources at the right time. Furthermore, our team is dedicated to meeting the professional and personal career goals of our candidates, consultants and clients!
